We headed down south this past week to San Rafel Swell / Gobblin Valley. Getting there and back was an adventure as we pulled tandem – meaning we had our truck pulling the camp trailer and hitched to that was another trailer with the ranger. It was 65 feet long. We really felt like a semi-truck. Everything had to be planned as there was no backing up, extra wide turns are a must and 60 to 65 mph was our friend the whole way. We made it there and back safe and sound. The weather was great for ranger riding and hiking.
These are the 2 sand buddies – they’re sure to be causing a little trouble over the next couple of years.
Our perfect little camp site – no hook ups, just dirt and rocks. The way we like it.
One day we headed out for some exploring and geo-caching. All the kids came up with geo-caching code names. Matt = DrapeDogg, Ricky = Rickybobby, Sage = SageRush, Mason = MaserRacer, Hunter = Sir Hunts a lot, Paxton = The PacMan, Mackay = MacDaddy, Jade = Jader Potater, Michelle – ChelleBell and I was none other than Miss Mo. These names were used the whole trip.
Following the trusty GPS and Matt’s hound dog nose we found 2 out of 3.
Here’s the Bangerters doing some rock crawling in their ranger and Hunter is doing the “rock on”.
We switched to a Ranger this year in stead of 4 wheelers and we don’t regret it one bit. No helmets for the kids – seatbelts instead, shade, comfort, storage, conversations and just plane fun!
Mackay was given his first cookie, thanks Aunt Michelle :)
We love to hike! We set out for a hike up Little Wild Horse Canyon. It was quite the adventure. I heard from some people coming down the canyon that the hike was a big loop. I asked them about it and they told me that we were almost half way there. We were pretty excited and wanted to do the whole loop. We kept walking and walking and walking. After starting to run short on water and my husbands patience, we decided we had better turn back. We ended up hiking a total of 8 miles. Everybody was wasted after that.
This was our sand jumping game.
We love Memorial Day. We always set aside some time to talk to our kids about those who have passed before us. In particular our grandparents. Both Matt’s and my grandpa served our country and we’re so proud of them. We’re grateful for their sacrifice and the opportunity we have to have our freedoms – which we sometimes take for granted. While Memorial Day is an important day set aside to remember these people, we also find it very important to create our own memories as a family – and that we did :)
