A great time never fails us at Yellowstone. This time we got a taste of winter, but that didn't change our plans at all. We arrived to the Island Park cabin with snow packed roads and about 7" of snow. This was one of the most relaxing vacations we have been on in a LONG time. Friday was spent watching movies, reading books, playing games, napping, eating awesome food, soaking in the hot tub and just old fashioned hanging out. The weather cleared perfectly for Saturday as Matt had put together our route for Yellowstone. We were able to visit some new places in the park and it didn't dissappoint. The elk were very active as they are in the rut, so we were able to see a lot of them. The cooler weather seemed to have pushed the animals around as well.
We were able to visit Mammoth Springs. A beautiful area with a resident heard of elk that live in the little town. The whole town stops for these animals. They run the show and you don't move until they get out of your way - and it's all on their choice :)
The kids had a blast using the binoculars and spotting differnt animals. Matt and Mase were on a mission to see wolves and bear. After a day of searching we found our wolves, they were pretty far away but we were able to spot them with a scope. Mason was getting worried that we wouldn't see a bear before the sunset, but Matt assured him to be patient.
We finally found our griz... In fact we got within 90 yards of him.
Here's Mase watching him through his binoc's.
We ended the evening with a spectacular sunset.
We couldn't resist the Bear World fun on the way home. This is always an absolute hit for the kids.
